NASA World Wind is a great application from NASA which literally lets you travel to any point on the planet without moving from your chair.
Taken from a point between the atmosphere and outer space, with NASA World Wind you can zoom in on the image of the planet progressively, until you can distinguish perfectly the city or region you want to visit.
Other NASA World Wind options are viewing the terrain via maps, inserting names and details into all the images (country names, borders, flags, etc), or the chance to locate in the program a specific point on the globe.
